MADE IN JAPAN

Post by Colin H F » Wed Sep 19, 2012 8:35 pm

With a lot of the in car head units coming in from Japan whats the probability of the connecting wires at the rear being the same or similar to the again Japanese imported Bongo, also after being beaten to the post on eBay recently I have been looking to find something that meets my criteria so you boffins cast your eyes over this and give me some feedback please.

I think Colin, that this particular model is to deep at 180mm!

You can gt iso converters on eBay for a few quid.

If you scroll down to the bottom of the page? It looks like the connector could just plug in..?? At least it would on my 95 model!!

But i would at check that 1,2,&3 correspond with the Bongo...

I was lucky with my all singing/dancing JVC 1 din unit, the ISO connector did plug straight in..! 8)

I think what Jaylee meant was to check that pins 1,2 and 3 correspond to the Bongo wiring if it happens to have the same connection. Don't want to go sticking 12v into the wrong pin.

The brake control...? Easy set up. run that wire to the hand brake so you can't watch DVD's unless the handbrake is applied...

66-840. http://lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/c ... mgno=.html

With an eye crimp connector to the screw that earth's the parking brake light it will cut the DVD visuals on the unit.

Yep! Cheers Simon..

The wires on the ISO harness could be switched about to accommodate anyway... If earth went to live for example??

Oh yeah, reverse control...? I would hazard a guess, to automatically switch over the screen from the reverse signal on the car for a visual signal on the radio unit for a reverse camera on the back..?

I'd be interested to hear if any of these cheaper all singing all dancing units are any good. I've been contemplating getting something similar, but was advised by a friend who fits stereos and alarms for a living, that you tend to get what you pay for. However, he was trying to persuade me to part with about £900 which is about £700 more than I'd ever want to spend on one.

I used an eBay one and posted the results, it's still going strong.

The ISO adapter from Halfrauds for the Mazda6 works fine.

Well finally took the plunge, after measuring again I have just over 190mm, when I remove the bracket that I mentioned which is tacked onto the main bar,as stated before this bracket was not on my previous Bongo so it must have been added to take the present head, going for this one as it meets my criteria, and UK dealer so no duty, I have been told it can be as much as a third of the price, this is the one Iv'e gone for

I sent a message to the supplier for info, he obligingly sent this

reverse in: positive pole of car back light.
IUUMI: positive pole of car headlight.
brake in: negative pole of power, or to the ground.
GND: negative pole of power, or to the ground
Key 1, key2: to the car signal wire.
IR: do not need connect.
ANT: if your car has automatic antenna, then connect. If no, then do not connect.<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<this bit made me chuckle.
couple of wires with same color: one to the negative pole of Audio, another one to the positive of Audio.

You can try to fit it. If there are any problems, we suggest you install by professional technician.

All makes reasonable sense to me... I've seen worse! :D

The bit i highlighted in red sounds similar principle to a signal from the dash illumination that dims the screen on the radio for night driving mode..? (At least on my 95 Bongo.) There is a wire for this function already in the Bongo loom... All though my JVC is a completely different head unit, it has this function which can ether be set on or off or set to dim on a timer? Which is cool because i have my headlights on most of the time on the country lanes....

Colin, if the unit fits the space & you want it? Go for it!! I personally can't see any issue with the wiring.. You will get help along the way!!!
