Re: rapesead oil/veg oil
Ah always good to see a newbie, lol, here we go, quick heads up.. I have been using NEW rapeseed oil, (it's the best) for 9 years or so, the way I always do it is..when tank gets to quarter full,I bung in the rapeseed oil, around 20 litres or more dependinh on my mood and weather, lol then top up with diesel to mix it all nicely, use less oil in winter as it gets very thick in the cold, loads on here have good look, best of luck.

Re: rapesead oil/veg oil
How much (£) is rapeseed oil compared to diesel? I looked in asda and it was £2-£3 for 500ml
Or are we talking buying in bulk and how cost effective is it?

if you look in the bargin section there is a thread asda had rape oil on offer at £3 for 3 litre bottle so most keep an eye open for offers like that.
Re: rapesead oil/veg oil
I don't know which shelf you were looking on but I have never seen it THAT expensive. That is extra virgin Olive Oil territory.smillingjimmyc wrote:How much (£) is rapeseed oil compared to diesel? I looked in asda and it was £2-£3 for 500ml

Re: rapesead oil/veg oil
Thats more like it Is it right to assume its ok to to just bung a couple of lts of this stuff in along with £10 worth of diesel? I know there is a load of threads on it but it all seems to get a bit technical for me!scanner wrote:I don't know which shelf you were looking on but I have never seen it THAT expensive. These days the price of Rapeseed Oil (Vegetable Oil in Tesco & Asda) goes up and down like a yoyo. When we first cottoned on to using it a few years back it was something like 50p a litre and about 75p a litre cheaper than diesel. Not long ago the price shot up and was almost on par with diesel making all the hazzle not worth it. It the moment the price has dropped back a bit making it a bit cheaper again. In answer to your question you have to look out for bargains and compare the current price of rapeseed oil with the current price of diesel to see how much you are saving and decide for yourself if the saving makes all the hazzle worth while to you.
Some people like Brorabongo go to the extreem of carrying a big drum of KTC vegetable oil from Costco etc with him, well he has enough strapping kids to find someone to give him a hand. But most of us just carry a few bottles and a funnel in a box and do the job ourselves.

Re: rapesead oil/veg oil
Yep or i personally prefer to put some veg oil in and then top up with diesel or i put some veg oil in a 20ltr can and add diesel so i have a can in the van to top up when away from home. (only carry it because i get diesel slightly cheaper from work )

Ohh c'mon that's just pffaffing about unless you just drive from filling station to filling station.
Make it worth while - How about starting with 20 litres and £30 worth?
Re: rapesead oil/veg oil
Just checked Asda price of veggie oil, 5 litres for £5.50
So £1.10 per litre compared to diesel at £1.45 per litre
Cashew
