Any campsite recommendation for Aviemore area?

Hi

Thinking about a quick trip this weekend. Husband wants to climb the Drumochter Munros, thinking of staying in Aviemore (they have a great Indian take-away) but have never camped there before.

Any recommendations for a good grassy site?

The one at Loch Morlich is spot on. A few miles out of the town though, but has direct access to the loch etc.

We're debating - go North to the above or South to Lake district, depends on weather! At the moment its cloud all weekend North, but mixed further South!
Currently near Perth !

I love the site at Loch Morlich too. The location on the loch shore is ideal and the scenery breathtaking. Great for cycling in forest ( hire at the site) . Cycle path goes to Aviemore too.

( Forest holidays/ Camping&Caravan Club)

Have also camped at dalraddy south of aviemore on the B9152 ( not great.) but okay if you are stuck.

For the Drumochter Munros you will find that Blair Atholl campsite is a lot nearer than Glenmore but lacks the fish & chips shops. In the same price bracket as Glenmore but you get free acess to the castle grounds. Really good facilities including a play room in the admin block (well they should be at the price). The toilet block was new (a few years back) and the shower cubicle that I used had its own adjustable radiator to keep you warm.

They do a lot of shooting on these hills. I did them years ago before I got my implant, forgot to check about the shooting and came across half a dozen shotgun shells lying on the path. Poachers or gilles?

When I first got the Bongo, we stayed on a campsite just as you go into Newtonmore, in a large field where - mainly - people keep caravans. For £5 a night (but with no hookup) we camped up with the River Spey right behind us, and a toilet and shower block (not glam but everything worked fine, coin in the slot showers) a very short walk away. The only slight downside was the site owners took doggie for a walk and sh*te down that end of the field, but it was a big field, and it wasn't a big problem, esp. at £5 a night.

The owners (real Highlanders) told us they thought £35k worth of campervan had just come on site, when we arrived. I was chuffed, and they nearly fell over, when I told them it cost about 1/10 of that price.
