Help! - Van won't start

Post by mad as cheese bongo man » Tue Sep 04, 2012 9:36 am

Hi All.

Nightmare! the Bongo won't start this morning. We've just returned from camping in the Gower and it won't start this morning.

It makes a repeated ticking sound - thats it.

I've got my local garage coming round later this afternoon, but I'm not sure now familar with Bongo's they are?

Any ideas?

Yep, easy enough fix... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MAZDA-BONGO-2 ... 6rk%3D2%26

No harm in checking the tightness of the starter battery terminals & earth strap to chassis too while yer there!?? Believe it or not, can cause a similar symptom...

You'll get same symptoms with a flat battery. Do the lights on the dash dim more than normal when you're trying to start it?

Let me know if can help Rob - I'm not far off, you have my number. Does sound like either battery or starter motor contacts. Irritating but not life threatening. Keep us posted. 8)

panic over; should have had more faith in the bongo!, just a flat battery. Someone had left the interior light on and the van hasn't been used for a few days. (eveyone had denied touching the light but I know one perrson who definitly hasn't!)

The guy from the garage didn't even charge me :)

Thanks for all your help guys, you can't beat instant online motor advice .... top stuff!

Great result, though the battery will not have liked being flattened so keep an eye on it. Not sure LB kits move interior lights over to the LB?

Depends how you wire it. The Willinton kit gives you 4 feeds to the fuse box, typically for blinds (L+R), interior lights and radio. Can cause issues if you have a alarm which works on voltage drop principle to trigger it when a door is opened.

#-o especially considering I fitted a Willinton kit and took up all the by-pass options. Just couldn't remember. Well then Rob, get it done lad

I altready have a leisure battery as part of the conversion from Elite. Additional interior lights are wired up to it, but not the original one's. No worries though, at least I know what it was
