The only (slight) problem I had was when I phoned up somehow they thought I was after a custom-built Bongo exhaust, with 2 back-boxes (left and right, which they do supply) - but for that one you need to take your van in fir a custom build & fit.
Once we worked out that I had mis-heard the first question and we were wandering down different paths we were quickly re-united on the 'stock' Bongo stainless system, and they were very helpful in getting it off the shelf and into a box as the courier arrived for his collection.
Once it was on, I thought the tail pipe looked a wee bit too close to the bumper, but in 3 months it hasn't been a problem.
Some excess wadding did spit out and burn off - like grey candy floss - which MIJ assured me was normal. Sure enough it stopped after a day or so.
It is remarkably quiet, given that it's stainless, and it eliminates the small centre box as well.

MIJ's exhausts only have one silencer box. They'll do you any sound you like from nice & quiet to something with very little in the way of the airflow. Street legal though

I'm guessing here, but I wonder if any of the s/s will come with more than one silencer box - ups the manufacturing cost a fair bit I'd guess?Muzorewa wrote:MIJ's exhausts only have one silencer box. if you go the powerflow route they will build off the mild steel 1st pipe (that never goes)
. so you save, get a flexi/and or gas expansion tube fitted in place of the front small box, then a smaller/lighter rear box and a fancy twin exit and your sorted. this is how the mazdaspeed (genuine) pipe is done, you will notice the performance difference
.
as you may gather im not a fan of the full stainless, they seem to be a little brittle if not fitted with a flexy.

Ahh! Hadn't picked up on that from your earrlier post, but I share your concern. It seems to me too that the brittleness of s/s is its most likely Achilles heel. Fine if the s/s assembly isn't subjected to undue flexing or vibration, not so good otherwise. Since the front part of the exhaust is reasonably thick piping and I imagine doesn't get the same condensation and contact with water problem either, and since the front end gets the most hammering from engine pulses, then (thick) mild steel should be good there. And if s/s is to be used then it might be the back end where it is of most value. Provided of course it is properly supported, and there is sufficient noise baffling in place (if you want silence from a silencer, like wot I do).Northern Bongolow wrote:if you go the powerflow route they will build off the mild steel 1st pipe (that never goes). so you save, get a flexi/and or gas expansion tube fitted in place of the front small box, then a smaller/lighter rear box and a fancy twin exit and your sorted. this is how the mazdaspeed (genuine) pipe is done, you will notice the performance difference

right so that could be the ticket... it's the rear box that fell off but apart from deciding it didn't want to stick around any longer, the condition was pretty good, so Id be surprised if the front box and 1st pipe do need to be replaced.Northern Bongolow wrote:if you go the powerflow route they will build off the mild steel 1st pipe (that never goes). so you save, get a flexi/and or gas expansion tube fitted in place of the front small box, then a smaller/lighter rear box and a fancy twin exit and your sorted. this is how the mazdaspeed (genuine) pipe is done, you will notice the performance difference

the guy at the powerflow dealer asked me if I needed the full catback... does this mean replacing the existing 3 part system, from the turbo back, since diesels don't have a catalytic converter?

I wont replace it all if I don't have to...

Re: Am I being ripped off
the bongo has a large bracket from the back of the turbo, then one onto the gearbox, this makes the front of the exhaust move with the movement of the engine , the rear is just on rubber hangers so without the flexy section this makes the entire exhaust twist like a wet dog drying itself
so without the flexy it may eventually fail.
cat back just means what it says, but the bongo diesel doesnt have one. i always get the rear section/s done.
ive had powerflow on the last 4 cars and have never had a problem.
