My latest modification,a flip down Screen for watching Films

Post by rhenry » Thu Aug 02, 2012 3:05 pm

Hi
not sure if anyone is interested but I was keen to fit a flipdown screen in the bongo for kids to watch films whilst travelling or for when camping. As I had bought a clearance Single Din DVD cd stereo from Halfords for £50 that has a small screen on front I only need a screen to send the picture to rather than a whole flipdown DVD player which are more expensive. I purchased one on Ebay (link below) for £68 and ran some power and audio/Video leads from the back of stereo up into the roof. I then fixed the Flipdown monitor to the hatch with some screws (I dont use the hatch anymore as have a catflap at the back) and then connected the cables up in the roof area and hid them away. Hey Presto movies on the go or just sitting on the drive with the blinds down !!

Its a 12 inch screen and the resolution is pretty good, it doesnt have its own speakers but as I am running it into the Stereo I dont need them. It has IR headphone capability if you dont want the racket whilst driving.

Nice one! 8) I'm rubbish at wiring anything - even had to get a garage to connect a stereo in my bongo! #-o

I think - though someone will correct me if I'm wrong .... if you upload your pictures into an image hoster like photobucket or tinypic, and then pick the code which has an img and /img in square brackets in the front and at the end, respectively, and copy it into the reply box - it should show your pics. :D

Hi. Good work there, looks great! I am interested in copying your idea. Could you possibly tell me more about how you routed the cables from the stereo to the screen? Did you go up the trim by the side of the windscreen or perhaps along the handbrake console and then up? Thanks for any info. Dave

That looks really good, so yet another modification to add to my list (along with the cat flap conversion) :D
