Bigdaddycains new pimp.

Post by daveblueozzie » Sun Sep 02, 2012 9:59 pm

BDC, his son AJ (who did most of the work) and me did a little pimp on his bongo today.
Ste decided he needed new brake discs on his bongo, and as usual not the normal ones will do #-o
A few pics of the discs, (also new brake pads fitted just in case anyone asks :D )

Image
AJ cleaning the hubs before fitting, nice and shiny.
Image
One of the new discs fitted, as you can see they are drilled and grooved, Ste painted the holes and grooves to stop them rusting.
Image
AJ putting copper slip on the reverse of the brake pads.
Image
A pic of one of the new discs along side of the old one.

All fitted with his wheels looking pretty.

As for the old discs they are going to be fitted on my bongo next week by AJ (they are only a year old) waste not want not. [-X :D
Just a couple of pics of Ste's bongo.

Like those, he mentioned them to me but I have just fitted new ones, maybe next time. Still got my Brembo calipers to fit.

They work brilliantly, Ste bought standard discs from nippon then sent them by courier to a machine shop in Ireland to be drilled and grooved.
As for price :? dont know didnt ask  .

I've spent today fitting new disc pads all round. That's about as much as I can cope with, but I did think about you painting your calipers Dave and wished I had the time and energy. And now those discs - just too cool. Were the old discs pigs to remove or do they come easy?

To be honest Mike i hardly got my hands dirty today, i was just the can lad for the brews, AJ did most of the work, front ones simple to remove, the rear ones needed a little persuasion with a mallet.

Are discs just 'Bongo specific' or are there a cross references to other makes /models ..??

Why paint the holes and slots? You do realise that the whole disc is made from mild steel and will rust anyway. The rust will just lift the paint off. :?

You can now get ready made grooved discs: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MAZDA-Bongo-2 ... 416a557368

If the paint used is heat proof then it may last ok. Dont think it will rust it was painted on a freshly machined surface. It'll be intesting to see how they look once the grooves are full of brake dust. Quite interested in the calipers used - they look much better than the standard rusty ones :).

I always paint disc vents and hubs with high temp silver paint, lasts about a year between coats and keeps the discs looking new
