Cigarette lighter sockets not working

Post by mickpuk » Fri Aug 31, 2012 12:35 pm

The cigarette lighter sockets on my Bongo do not work. There is voltage there but when e.g. a tyre inflator is connected the display will light but when you turn on the pump it does not work and the display dims. This suggests there is a high resistance contact somewhere. Does the cigarette lighter feed come through a relay? The fuse is ok. The wing mirrors operate. The cigarette lighter is fed off of the main battery which is fully charged, no problems starting the Bongo. I've seen other posts with similar problems, but haven't found an answer. Thanks

Try holding the plug in. I've often found it necessary to wiggle the plug to get a good contact.

i know this sounds obvious but have you tried the tyre inflator in a different car to rule that out

Sometimes these plug in units like an air compressor have a glass fuse in a sprung holder in the plug at the end of the lead... Could be a dodgy connection in the plug/fuse holder??
