V6 Belts

How doo!?

I'm off to change some belts in my v6!
Have I got all the important ones?

1. Alternator Belt
2. Timing Belt
3. Air-Con Belt

If you're doing the timing belt, it is strongly recommended that you do the camshaft and crankshaft seals too as they are known to leak as they get older.

god my head is buzzing!

Following discussions with my mechanic i am going to buy the following:

1 x Timing Belt
2 x Air-Con Belt
1 x Alternator Belt
1 x Timing belt tensioner (is this hydraulic on my v6)
Camshaft and Crankshaft Seals 2no. large & 2no. small.

He's very good and tries to explain everything in laymans terms to me.
I try to take it all in.
Does this list look correct? The hydraulic tensioner is well expensive. Do I defo need a new one?

Most folk don't bother changing the hydraulic tensioner, partly due to the £250+ price tag, but also as the general consensus is that it does not normally give any trouble. I had my belt and seals done at Allans in Plymouth and he (along with Gerry and Fred at Discount Trucks in Newbury) advised me that they would not normally change it unless faulty.

While you've got it in bits, also change:

Oil and filter
Coolant
Thermostat (genuine Mazda part)
Air filter
Spark plugs

If you've no history of the auto gearbox fluid being changed, do that and get the mesh filter removed and cleaned out.

Finally, the last things you could do is change the rear diff oil and replace brake fluid (should be done very 2 - 3 years).

I'm all over the standard bits like filters, oil and plugs etc.. They get changed when they should.

I won't get the tensioner changed then but will do all the belts and seals, and maybe the thermostat if I can find one.
