Just noticed this yesterday, probably because we were driving with the windows open for the first time in a while.
When I shift to Reverse and first start to reverse, there is a very brief noise which sounds like a heavy chain being rattled coming from underneath somewhere. I first thought I had actually left a link chain on the rear bike rack and it had got caught underneath (but I hadnt!).
We're just back from a 3,000+ mile trip around Europe, with no issues other than to top the coolant up slightly once or twice.
Any ideas?
Noise when shifting to Reverse and reversing?

probably 'lash' or slack being taken up in the gearbox/propshaft/diff
