Jump start from leisure battery.

Post by weebrian » Fri Aug 10, 2012 7:06 am

I'm not connived that my vehicle battery is 100% and don't want to change it before our road trip. I know the leisure battery is fine so would it be ok to jump start in the event of an emergency from one to the other using jump leads ?

Yes i have done this with mine but dont make a habbit of it you may need to conect the jump leads and leave it 10 mins before you try and start the van.

Yes you can , ive done it myself, the only problem is the LB is not made for jump starting, so jump starting a few times will kill the LB.
Lost without my Bongo.

Hi,if you are in doubt,I would get the battery/alternator checked and replace if need be, BEFORE your Road Trip.

Cheers.

I agree, anything else is false economy. I've jump started from my (v powerful) LB but as the others have implied, if the engine didn't 'take' at once (mine did - 2.5TD is an instant starter) then you might be suckered into keeping trying and thus wrecking the LB (which is not intended for delivering cranking amps like the SB)

Thanks for all the advice. I set off tomorrow and the battery only showed signs of low charge yesterday so I haven't really got time to have the system checked before I go. If need be, I'll find somewhere en route to check things.

I don't intend making a habit of using the LB, just in case I need it in an emergency.
