campsite in the north west please....

hi all,

any recommendations for campsites gratefully received!!! cheaper the better

lakes area would be great...but open to all suggestions...looking to go next weekend.

Best I reckon is Hill of Oaks Lodge & Caravan Park which is on the east side of Windermere about halfway between Newby Bridge and Bowness-on-Windermere. A relaxed site with all hardstanding pitches, piers onto the water and a beach where you can have a Barbie. We’ve been there in May the last three years, some photos in the links below to show you what to expect....

Probably second favourite is Waterside House campsite at Ullswater, a stunning location.

In February last year we went to Sykeside Camping Park which has a pub & restaurant on site, it’s to the north of the Kirkstone Pass in Patterdale and near to Brothers Water. We arranged this months in advance with the specific purpose of having snow, alas there was none but we went back a week later and it was whiteout!!

There’s some great sights by the side of Wast Water & Scafell Pike where there is a campsite but we didn’t try it. Definitely best views of Scafell Pike from there although you can get good views from the Hardknott Roman Fort as well, halfway across the Hardknott Pass.

First camping trip we did in the Bongo was at The Quiet Site by Ullswater, this also has a pub onsite. We used it as a base to try out our transmission under warranty on the Wrynose and Hardknott passes

A nice NT site is Low Wray campsite on the NW of Windermere but they are really only equipped for tents but they will take campervans except you have to park in a bit of a layby. There is a cracking beach on the side of the lake which you can’t camp at, but we moved there in the very early morning (while Hannah was still asleep in the roof) to get some pics!!

While you’re in the Lakes you should go to the only ‘lake’ in the Lake District....

And in Ambleside you should go to the famous Bridge House which most people drive straight past without noticing....

We like Redbank Farm at Bolton-le-Sands. It's only £6 per adult per night, well it was last year. Thinking of going ourselves next weekend.

We can 'second' the Quiet site at Ullswater stopped there overnight en route to Scotland - lots of walks from the site (we didn't have time) dog friendly, and a bar in a barn on site.

Only issue with The Quiet Site was the price, iirc they charged £32.00 per night at the end of December. "Peak season mate" - Yeah right. But as it was our first Bongo overnighter we were more interested in getting to grips with the beastie in readiness for the forthcoming summer

Don't forget Gibraltar Farm at Silverdale - a lovely site, just in Lancashire but within easy distance of one of the best chippies in the land at Arnside

We like coniston hall campsite on the banks of lake coniston,no hookups but a nice location and you can have a campfire and swim in the lake if you fancy it.
Cost us £15 pn when we were last there in may and that's for 2 adults and the dog.
Take a 20 minute walk into the village for a beer.

Hi , I liked the old post office campsite in the shadowish of Scafell. Great river runs through it and good pub grub over the road..farmers shop up the hill and cafe around the corner. Dave

in the end we are off to the welsh coast looking forward to some sea and sun...but have noted all advice and will certainly be going to the lakes soon,
