HELP: how do i remove rear cigarette lighter socket

Pushed and prised but can't get the bugger out. Am I missing a trick, does it have hidden clips? Advice would be welcome. Thanks chums.

If it's the one on the LHS, possibly remove the tray on the wheelarch, (single screw in the middle) and reach round. There are two prongs that you need to squeeze together. The other way is to remove the whole rear panel first. That how I found out you could reach it from the tray position (without removing the whole panel)..... Hope it works for you.....

Thanks Terry, just the advice I needed. I have indeed removed the cubby box and have been trying to squeeze the unit. Just can't locate prong positions, but at least I know I'm on the right track and must just persevere.

I took mine out on Saturday. The little black ring was what put up one hell of a fight but I wasn't wooried about damaging it as I was putting a marine one in. I think I pushed the metal part out about an inch and then battled with the plastic bit. This was through the cubby box hole too. probably should have taken the black bit out separately asfter the metal bit..

Thanks chaps, fantastically helpful. Suitably encouraged, I persevered and it came on in the end. Now have a DIN socket wired in for the coolbox. No more unreliable connections....I hope

Glad it worked ..... That's not a bad idea.... I might go down that route or parallel up a din socket so I have both. Must remember to derate them though so I don't melt something or double wire the feed wiring........

Yup, I need to make up a label that says use one or the other but not both. That wiring is not well rated, but I can't be *rsed sorting out new wiring and it has been running my coolbox with no probs so far. The only other thing likely to be used in parallel is my sons PSP and I doubt that uses much at all.

I was going to go for a DIN socket having fitted one to the bike but I had a marine type 12V socket in my hoard of unused Maplin bits. Did yours fit in the standard hole? 'fraid I've dremelled mine out now.... secondhand frige I just picked up has got a dual type plug an all.

Incidentally I suspect that the Bongo fag lighters are wired in Teflon insulated, if so they may be cpable of passing more current than their appearance suggests although mine must have had a bad connection somewhere.

Life is waaaaaaay too short. I'm going with the teflon coated better rated than you think option.
