oil leak query

Post by egor617 » Thu Aug 02, 2012 4:37 pm

I've just checked the oil level in the bongo and noticed where the top/bottom of engine bolt together there's oil around the rear 3 studs (none around the front 3).

The dipstick was on full so didn't need any oil added, there's no oil on the drive or at work either.

Do i need to be worried? is this just where the paper/cork gasket between the two halves of the engine has aged and is now leaking a bit?

I was planning on travelling somerset-silverstone this weekend though.

Since the last oil change in april it's done quite a few miles, somerset to cornwall, silverstone and brands hatch but hasn't used any oil according to the dip stick, so might take a spare thingy of oil just to top it up if needs be.

FYI - the gasket is a sandwich of thin metal, no like in the olden days ;). The leak could be coming from around the inlet manifold & running down the side of the head. Get some Gunk or brake cleaner to remove all the oil & then you should be able to see where its coming from. I personally dont think its anything to worry about.
