cleaning k+n filters?

any ideas how you clean these things ive had one for 3 years now and thought best to clean it..

will washing up liquid be ok?

I got one on my mazda3. To clean it I bought a kn cleaning kit, because your meant to re oil them as well with there recharger, I got mine on e bay for about 10.00 cheers

On my bike I use a cleaning powder made for Motocross filters and spray filter oil, any large Motorcycle shop will stock it.

Halfords to the cleaning / recharge kit for about £15 although you can get it cheaper online. It's not a pleasant job as you end up with a bucket of soapy water with a pink film of oil & grime. It is claimed that it gets better the more dirt that gets trapped, but I personally would clean it once a year regardless.

here the answer: K&N Recharger Air Filter Cleaning Kit part Number 99-5000EU (tested in the states with exemplary reviews) also used by the boys at Santa Pod drag racing circuit. 8)
