REAR END WOBBLE 4WD

HI FOLKS,
This is by way of info which may be helpful if you have a similar problem.

On a trip to Le Mans this last w/e Freda started to develop both a low speed (15-20 mph) rear end wobble,
as if the rear wheels were like alternate cams, it was quite apparent when looking thorough the r/w mirror
& from the complaints of the rear passenger. Of course many scenarios went through our heads, rear diff,
bearings etc, etc. Plus from the front, s/wheel shake at 60 mph + so it was getting alarming.

Well as we returned home ( a round trip of 850 miles) we had a slow leak at the rear which finally gave out at
825 miles, after pumping up we managed to get home, by morning it was down again so a quick pump &
we made it to our local tyre depot.

Two new rears & to front balances & we were cured , Thank you Lord.

The fronts I can understand, each wheel needed 30gm to balance.

The rears which I knew would need replacement, were, according to the fitter rather oval in shape
which would give the wobble effect at low speed, & looking at them were showing their age with
sidewall cracks, so if you experience rear end wobble ( the van not your own) check how circular
your tyres are. These tyres were on the van from purchase & the van a fresh import so had not been changed
in this country.
Anyway hope this is of use.
