When I drive off 1st thing in the morning I get what can only be described as a loud bang followed by some spluttering at the first hill I attempt to climb. If I start my car and let the engine run for 10 mins then rev it to 3000 revs when I start it up first thing the banging doesnt happen ???
Can someone suggest something that could be either on its way out or could it be something to do with my catalytic convertor ???

Re: Catalytic symptoms ???
Sounds like it is backfiring. Unburnt fuel exploding in the exhaust system rather than the cylinder. Needs to be sorted out asap, as it will do the catalyst no good at all.

Hi,
That is usualy a sign of a timing fault, dampness on the IGN leads or a sticking exhaust valve.
Your best bet is to let it tick over for ten minutes as you said until you get it fixed, otherwise you could burn out the CAT.
Cheers.

Re: Catalytic symptoms ???
Yes sorry I have a V6 2.5i petrol with an LPG conversion. I have purchased a brand new set of HT leads which are being delivered this Thursday then hopefully my bongo will be going in on Friday to have the leads fitted and to be given the once over b4 I go to Switzerland and France next month.
I was sure if I warmed the engine for 10mins b4 I drove it that would help - A bit concerned about the warnings concerning the cat, is that something that is going to cost me a fortune if it goes ? and would you attempt to drive across Europe with a dodgey one ???

Re: Catalytic symptoms ??? V6
Just had a call off the garage to let me know there is nothing wrong with my exhaust or catalitic convertor it was my HT leads - they were damaged, so this was causing my beloved Bongo to mis-fire
See I told u I know bugger all.... So new set fitted and a new coil lead ordered from club shop "Although Ian did nearly give me a heart attack when he quoted me £73 !!!! turns out it was the coil and not the lead he was quoting" lol
A big thank you for my Lighter socket too Ian
