Wipers Perminantly On.

Post by windywatson » Sun Jul 08, 2012 1:27 pm

Hi Guys, Anyone out there experianced the following? If so what do I need to check/replace, if not any Ideas?

Whilst on hols in Cornwall (spotted 47 bongos, yes we do keep count) during very heavy prolonged rain, had wipers on continually for hours. When I came to turn them off, they kept going. Only stopping when ignition switched off. When ignition turned back on, wipers stayed off until used again when same happened. Did find a way to get them to stop whilst the ignition was still on. Found that if I squirted the washers after the couple of wipes that you get when doing that they would then stop.

Any Ideas? As very rainy at moment and starting to worry that eventually there going to be on constantly what ever I do.

Cheers

It sounds very much like the Stalk switches are very dirty and are welding together, but can still be dislodged by extra movment (flicking the wash switch), might be worth trying some electrical contact cleaner (try NOT to use WD40 it leaves a sticky residue and there is no water to displace!) first otherwise it might need replacement.
