Glow plug light coming on and flashing

Hi
Can someone help me please (my garage can't!!) I know nothing about engines so not capable of repairs myself! I live in South Derbyshire and my Ford Frieda is playing up. Firstly, it starts ok, glow plug light comes on and goes off as normal. Then after driving about 10 to 15 minutes the glow plug light comes back on (in hot weather too) and starts flashing. We noticed loss of power at the same time. We called the AA out as we also have the van covered under the AA repair scheme - they couldn't diagnose the problem. However, the local garage had the van in while we were away last week to try to diagnose the problem and failed to as well - but they did say that they didn't notice a loss of power when the light started flashing. Does any one know anyone in this area who is likely to be able to help ( or alternatively give some advice as to the potential problem so I can advise the garage on what to do). Most grateful!

Hi and welcome to the forum, many garages don't have the correct connector for the Bongo diagnostic socket as its an older design before they were standardised. There is a web page here http://www.philmcfadden.co.uk/MazdaDiagnosticBox.htm which gives some info.

The Flashing hold light just indicates that there is a problem, you have to go deeper to find the code and then the explanation!

Thanks for all the info everyone. The vehicle is 2010 diesel. I will go back to the garage and see if they can work it from here. Failing that I will still need to find a garage who have more knowledge of the Bongo.
