Tailgate struts

Bought some silicon spray the other day and did all my struts
now the tailgate wont stay up #-o

Hi bongobaz,

The struts should be self lubricating,try polishing the chrome with printer paper until there are no black marks on the paper.It could be too late but worth a try.

Doh! Could have been worse, apparently some people use WD40 on their brake pads to stop them squeaking... :roll:

If all else fails these people will sort 'em for you baz.

Hi bongobaz ,

As a temporary fix,you could get two pieces of metal/aluminium tubing adapted ( Slotted )to fit over the open ram of the strut,theses will act as a stop,and keep the tail gate open.

It will save the pole from getting wet :lol:

Or get some bicycle inner tube or some other jaw liner and use a pair of vice grips to clamp the piston and stop of from dropping.
