That would be an option, clip them on at intervals. i have some of the tape ones I used to use for computer cables on a dispenser, could use that at a pinchrita wrote:Hi,would it not be possible to use split ring numbers or letters.Velocette wrote:I will look at the shop. at a price of course for the real thing!
If you use normal electrical solder you don't need to clean the flux off ....
If you use Plumbing solder... well that is a different matter ...
I am going to remove the harness and do it indoors but my only worry is maintaining some sort of colour code. I got a telling off once for wiring a bike in all one colour as I could only afford one reel at the time!
Edit
That price is about what I expected it would be from a mazda dealer, if not more. If I hadn't just ordered two paint kits and paid my renewal I would have just hit add to cart! Still tempted as it would be the best solution by far.
Something like this..

Thanks, I know just the place! Are those white connectors fairly standard and interchangeable. presumably the pins are crimped and retained by some sort of spiggot? I have done all sorts of computer cabling and a bit of bike wiring but not much on cars.g8dhe wrote:There is only about 13 wires or so (X16 & X17 connectors) involved, I would have thought if you ask around you could find a cable with that number of wires or similar as scrap as you would only need a metre or so then the connections can be done nearer the original connectors - just make sure its not single core wire you need something like 20/0.3mm stranded wire for flexibility - try the local scrap metal merchant!

Re: Window switch - Noise?
The individual pins are normally held in with a single simple barb/pin - releasing them is easy with the right tool - finding the right size/shape tool is the trick! Finding replacements ..... you may find that Farnell/RS etc. can supply if you can find the right shape/size identifying the right one is another matter ...
It might be better to retain the old plugs and wires and simply stagger sleeve connectors onto the new cable at both ends.

Re: Window switch - Noise?
I got the harness out and laid it on the breakfast bar and both my wife and my son said I was mad to attempt to rewire it so I have ordered one from the Club shop. I was looking forward to my new ratchet crimpers too
One thing I have learned, if you lose the spring from the switch that disables the passenger controls, you can make several out of a Clipper cigarette lighter flint spring! A bit heavy but it does the job.
