Intermittent starting problem

Post by Nogob » Thu Jun 21, 2012 7:39 am

Hi

I wonder if anyone can help diagnose a problem I have, or maybe I should say, an issue that I'm worried might become a problem with my 2.5 diesel?

In a nutshell, when I turn the key, wait for the glow plug lights to go off and go to start the engine, nothing happens. If I then turn the key back and instantly to to start the engine again, it's fine.

This is happening about 1 out of 5 or 6 times. At other times it's fine.

It started to happen almost immediately after I had a few issues with my leisure battery (a fuse went so I had to repatch everything back to the starter battery until I replaced the fuse) so I initially put it down to a battery issue but I think the battery's okay.

Does anyone have any thoughts? Starter motor?

Many thanks in anticipation

i would start with

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MAZDA-BONGO-2 ... 43b0d9e8e4

you will find the one on the positive side might be no thicker than a fag paper

I had this problem and forked out for a new starter motor. Turned out that the gear stick was not engaging into park properly. Next time it happens just move it in and out of park and then try it again.

Also check that all battery terminals are clean and tight and the battery earth is clean and securly fitted to the vans chassis.

Keep us posted, Pete.

Hi, thanks to all for the advice. It hasn't actually happened again since I posted the original message!
