Best oil for 2.5l 4WD TD

Post by alimey » Tue Jun 26, 2012 7:43 pm

Dear fellow bongonauts and techies

I want to keep my new (well to me) Bongo in as good condition as possible and so I have bought him some oil to keep him topped up.

After consulting the boards here I went out looking for a fully-synthetic 5w-30 as that seemed to be what people recommended. However, at Halfords I found the following:

Castol Edge - fully synthetic
5W-40
Fluid Strength Technology for Turbo Diesels
(For Audi, VW, BMW, Mini, Mercedes-Benz, Renault, Skoda & Seat cars)

Do you think this is a really really good oil for him??? (it was pretty expensive . . .)

Thread with quite a bit of detail....

Got to remember it wouldn't have had fully synth in it all this time.....

I would go for something half way :)

Thanks Stefan. I'd actually read this thread & come to the conclusion that fully synthetic was a good thing. But just wondered about the viscosity.

I bought the most expensive thing they had - must be good???
