12V impact wrenches & brake pads, roll bars etc

Hi all,

spent a lot of time fighting with my bongo & it's MOT required repairs, so much that I'm thinking of buying one of these impact wrenches http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/produ ... t%20wrench

Questions are: Are they worth it? Has any of you used to remove Brake calliper bolts, drop link bolts, anti roll bar links bolts etc? I'm just wondering if there is enough clearance on the "inside" of the vehicle to be able to use the wrench for the above jobs?

I have an Aldi one which is probably similar. the only thing I have used it for on the Bongo was for removing seat rail bolts. On my Bike I have removed a front sprocket bolt which is a pretty hefty size and torque, I had to jump up and down on a 3' breaker bar the previous time. You have to be a bit patient and let them knock a few times IIRR but they should do the job.

I would be surprised if that would deliver the required sustained torque to remove wheel nuts, ARB drop links, etc. Those cables look pretty flimsy and I can't see it drawing enough current at 12V to deliver much torque continuously. It might be OK but I have used a cheap battery powered impact wrench in the past and it wouldn't even undo a wheel nut consistently.
This Clarke one is however excellent and I have been using it for a couple of years to change wheels and it removed the ARB drop link nuts easily.

Ditto on the 24v clarke one same as i have and i would not be without it.

I did the swinging arm and wheel bearings, chain and brake disc on my bike recently and it did them all even the front sprocket which is a ball buster. Powered by the bike battery via the accessory socket. Might not be as quick as a Pro one but it made the dismantling a breeze. It might not stand up to day in day out use though.

yep I would prefer the Clarke........but my wallet says no ...but if it can't do the job required!

How long is the wrench? just wondering if there is enough clearance between calliper nuts & inside of wheel arch area in order to use the thing

6 sided sockets and a decent wrench...... job done... no nuts/bolts wrung off..... also quick tip.... graphited penetrating oil and copper grease on reassembly....

Replace my discs and pads using the 12v clarke corded one, (purchased from machine mart). It handled all nuts/bolts no problem. That was a few years ago. Now having problems with sticking calipers, (rubber boot FUBAR) also pads have worn uneven. Have just striped and clean sliders etc, and again the 12v wrench worked a treat. Will be stripping down again when new boot arrives from Bongo shop.

I also have a cordless impact wrench, but it can not even handle wheel nuts.
