Boot rubber sizes *DONT DELETE*

Post by Northern Bongolow » Sun Mar 25, 2012 12:34 am

Here is a list of the sizes required for Rubber Boots for the items shown below.

Front Suspension Wishbone Ball Joint and Rubber.
Size of Ball Joint bottom seal, 35mm. Top seal 22mm.

The left rubber in the picture is a genuine rubber. The one on the right is a cheap replacement part that fits
but quite badly. The upper hole is to small and the lower hole is slightly baggy. (See reference below to metal ring clamp)

The Photo below shows the gripping metal band that is part of the rubber boot. This grips the seat of the ball joint
and holds it in place. The replacements do not have this, so may let water in and grease out.

Front Droplink
Large side 30mm - Small side 14mm again, note the rubber contains the metal band that grips the droplink.

Steering Rack Track Rod End

Small hole side 15mm - Large hole side 32mm. Again with metal clamping band on large hole side that grips the ball joint.

Hope this helps anyone in search of replacements.

Hi,
That's very informative, =D>

Just remember when ordering to include the height of the boots, and go for the ones supplied with the Clips.

PS,You may also need to go for under size apertures.

Cheers.

Only note to make is that just about all aftermarket droplinks have the rubber with 2 retaining rings, so whilst the boots are no good for original links they can be replaced on aftermarket jobbies (cos thats what they have anyway #-o )

This place may be of use or This Place

I'm told in Japan they have a part for the lower wishbone joint cover as OHNO DC-1524 which has a bottom size of 34.5 so matches with what has been said and the Track Rod end is DC- 1125 sorry no size for that one...

can anyone bring some old bottom ball joints to the bash.
ive chopped up several different makes of these, ( pictures to follow later.).and found some remarkable differences in quality, there is one particular make that stands out as much better made than the rest of them, what i really need is a larger sample number to cut up to confirm this. also this particular make lends itself to be modified slightly at the diy level to possibly last for years.

so if anyone has any old worn/split knackered ones lying about at home, can i please have them to cut up, all will be revealed later  .
