no electrical feed to radio, 12v cigarette lighter, mirrors

Post by Nvm » Tue Jun 05, 2012 6:09 pm

Hi All

During a recent trip away my radio and 12v (cigarette lighter) supply stop working. Ive also noticed the wing mirrors dont move too. I have checked the fuse box in the dash and put a new fuse in the number 8 slot but nothing again. The used correct fuse 'blue'.

I have no radio and 12v supply, Im a bit puzzled now.

I have a leisure battery connected too that is indicating full charge and everything appered to be working as it should prior to this.

How it happened was I was plugging in a cheap nintendo dsi charger to charge the console then the light built in green light (on the cheap charger) went on then off and i noticed the radio red light had gone off which is always constantly red whether being used or not. From then on...nothing.

all help accepted.

Sounds like you have a fuse gone on your leisure battery set up.
It is common for the lights / blinds / radio to be wired to the leisure battery. Normally this will involve the wing mirrors and central locking as they are unfortunately on the same circuit.
So my first suggestion would be to check the fuses added during the conversion.

Many thanks but where would i find these newly added fuses? I checked the mini blades and they seem ok both in cab and under bonnet but not the sqaure ones.

It all depends on who did the conversion as to how its wired.
However, if you have a leisure battery then almost certainly you should have a charging relay. It would be best practice to place the fuse as close to the leisure battery as possible, so I would look at the heavy + wire on the leisure battery. You should find an inline fuse within a few inches (I would hope). There should also be one on the other end of the relay between that and the starter battery.

If you have a Willington kit the fuses for four circuits transferred from the dash fusebox are in a little box normally located where the clutch (cable? master cylinder? position) is normally blanked off on the bulkhead (on an auto). On a manual I guess it is elsewhere on the bulkhead.
