205 50 17 - Suitable or not?

Post by mattbrum » Thu May 31, 2012 9:45 am

Hi,

Has anyone run this size tyre on 17" wheels, they are the correct load rating, just not sure if they might be a little skinny?

Thanks,

Matt

The important bit is the load index.

205 is 10mm wider than standard for the front anyway.

That's a fairly low profile tyre and using the tyre calculator

http://www.club80-90syncro.co.uk/Syncro ... ulator.htm

you will see that the actual rolling radius of the tyre is less than the standard Bongo tyre.
This means that it will be a bit lower geared and your speedo will read over by even more than normal.

We have got 255.55.17 (with a 101 rating) tyres all round on ours which give a nice comfy ride and a bigger rolling radius than standard so it's a bit higher geared which possibly helps slightly with fuel consumption and the speedo is now pretty accurate checking it against a GPS.

Hope this helps.
