Gear box oil radiator soaked in oil dripping out of the fans
After noticing a small oil drop on the drive, I looked under the engine to find the small gear box oil cooler at the bottom of the normal rad was absolutely smothered in red oil as if it was leaking from the fans, is this a common thing to happen?

You may be lucky and find its just the rubber hose that has a hole in, or the clips may be loose. Alternatively, it may be the whole radiator which needs to be replaced. The radiator is not particularly prone to damage by flying stones etc as the air conditioning unit sits in front which offers good protection.
If you can clean the area up, then hopefully you will be able to see where the leak is.

There is quite a good photo on this ebay listing that shows the two metal pipes as they enter the plastic lower section of the radiator. It is possible the metal pipes have become corroded or damaged, although I would still put my money on it being the hose or clip that's at fault.

If it is "red oil" is it transmission fluid?
The pipe joint on mine where it goes into the rad was a bit loose and had been leeking for a while and making the bits underneath messy. I fixed it but it happened again, so need to keep an eye on it.
The pipe goes int the back of the rad on the drivers side and any leakage goes down to the area mentioned.
Hope that helps and it is something simple.

Gearbox oil is red, yes. The only other oily bits in the area is around the intercooler which does attract a lot of gunge from the turbo and EGR. Of course, it could be coolant, but that would look and feel different.

Thanks so much for your Replies. Ive been flat out at work so not had chance to look properly yet.
Ill try and get under it this weekend and fingers crossed it will just be a hose.

could be powersteering pipe/ pump leak or the rack. its under pressure so could squirt everywhere, and its the same colour.
