What tyre pressure should I have?

I have Bridgestone Blizza Revo2 215/65/R16 98Q all round on my V6 which is converted to a camper and have just put 40 in the rear tyres and 35 in the front. Can anyone tell me if this is OK please?

bongo manual says: front= 195SR15 1.8
Rear= 215/65R 15

I typed the wrong size and have now corrected it. The problem is that I do not have the standard sized wheels fitted.

"In Japan the tyres have different compounds than those found in Europe, so they do not need to inflate the tyres as high. But we recommend that front tyres are inflated to 34 psi and rear to 36 psi. Add another 2 psi if you have a camper conversion."

I have used them in the past but only during winter.(Snow)

This sounds like very iffy info. Does anyone know where this piece of wisdom comes from? What would the reason be for tyre manufacturers to produce totally different tyres for a specific region?

I doubt it very much,if that was the case all Japanese vehicles in this country and Europe would be running about with the wrong tyre pressures.It would also be uneconomical to make tyres for the Jap home market and the European market.

Yes I am told they will be OK.

How are you getting on with you new toy (The Bongo). Hopefully it turned out to be OK. I used some CIF cleaner to clean the inside of mine and even got the wheels up like new using this. I had bought some interior cleaner from Halfords which did nothing apart from making me £6 poorer.

I can only go on my own experience here....

Our Bongo came in from Japan with Toyo tyres fitted. They were clearly Japanese spec. and didn't have some of the usual markings you'd expect. For instance, I had to contact Toyo themselves to find the Maximum Inflation Pressures (35psi on the front, 36psi on the rear). These are much lower than the pressures a lot of people on this forum use.

So although the information from the fact sheet does sound a bit odd, I can certainly believe it's correct.

I can remember when Renaults started getting common in the UK they all had Michelin tyres that ran as soft as s###.

Nowadays there is a consensus that soggy tyres are bad for fuel economy and I can't say that I've noticed typical Michelins recently.

Maybe these Japanese tyres were of similar construction?

Rather than just from country to county .. I would assume that tyre compounds vary manufacturer to manufacture any way ...

For example ..winter tyres will have a different compound to 'normal' tyres even from the same maker ... high performance tyres will be a softer more 'sticky' compound than used for the average family saloon ... commercial 'van' tyres will be a different compound than the same size tyre for 'domestic' vehicles .............
