scratches - any before and after pictures??

i'd like to deal with a few scratches on betty bongo and am wondering if anyone can recommend any good products and perhaps have some before and after pics. dont want to waste my pennies on stuff that just doesnt work.

Hi betty - don't have an answer but there are quite a few little scratches on the bongo I have just bought (especially around the driver's door lock) which I would like to cover if possible. I see there are touch up kits to match the paint codes which perhaps come with instructions (haven't bought one yet) but any tips for getting a good finish will be useful, so I'll be watching your thread!

this is the one i want to tackle first - theyre not deep and are still silver/grey (if that helps with the depth)..

jml are advertising a new product, cant remember what its called but they are claiming it will get rid of scratches. my son seems to think tcutting it might work but im sure ive already tried that.

As a rule if you run your nail over it and can feel it then you will prbably need paint, if you can not feel it then a cutting compound should work, you could try Meguiars ScratchX or a harder compond like Meguiars Ultimate Compound, using them though is best to be done by machine,I have been using UC on scratches on my silver and it has taken quite a few off and dulled others but I have only been doing it by hand.

As a sprayer I agree with these comments,you need a cutting compound to polish out scratches but if they are very deep you will not remove them and may need to repaint the damage.
You may be able to improve the appearance of the scratch by compounding polishing it and if you have access to an electric buffer it will make the job easier and quicker but be carefull if you use a buffer it's easy to get carried away and burn through your paintwork and create an even bigger problem.
Personally I never use Tcut there are much better products available these days.

boggle, can i ask what you would use then instead of tcut as id like to try this. the new product by jml is nantis i think - have you heard about it?

Best idea without a big bill is to Fill the scratch with the right colour match, use a very fine brush or even tissue rolled up tightly with a very fine point thats what i do, build the paint up over a few days some touch ups have laquer already in the paint which is more ideal or you can buy it seperatley, after building up a few layers over a few days flat it back use 2000/2500 grit wet and dry and then buff it, its best to use an electric rotary buffer, use a good compound polish such as presta ultra cutting creme or 3m fast cut plus. or any other good compound, you can use farecla but its not as good as the more modern compounds.

ive just touched a scratch in which i plan to do the same process so il take a few pictures and do a before and after once ive finished it. hopefully this weekend.

Hi,sorry it has taken a while to reply,we have been off to north Wales today in the bongo.
Another forum member has suggested painting in the scratches and then polishing when the lacquer has cured,you can do this if you don't want to go down the route of spraying the damage,I have done the same thing and if done well you can definitely improve the appearance.
As already suggested you can try the meguires product but I use the presta range of compounds and polishes and they are outstanding in my opinion,do a google search for presta polishes.
Can't comment on the JML product as I have never used it,feel free to pm me if you need any info.

Hi I agree. Tcut is so old fashioned and I never thought it was any good any way, I like the 3M range of fast cut followed by machine glaze. Lastly a coat of quality wax.

I need to do some scratches and touch up but can't find the right colour paint. Can someone point me in the right direction please?

Find the paint code on the label inside drivers door shut, look it up on the factsheet and order it from club shop or paint factors. Be aware Mazda sometimes have different paint with the same codes so make sure you go for the Japanese variation.
