Fans?

Post by andyd294 » Sun Apr 29, 2012 8:27 pm

Hi everyone,
I have a 96 2.5 Diesel Auto Free Top. My fan seems to be at one speed - fast! It does stop when the system is switched off. Auto temp still works but on a fast fan!
Also, when I accelerate there seems to be a fan which starts and speeds up then steadies when I'm at speed. I've read about a scavenger fan, is this what it is? It doesn't come through the internal system.
I would appreciate any feedback please.

Cheers
Andy

you say the fan is at one speed, do you mean the front rad fans, if yes is the aircon on.
or do you mean the heater fan, or another fan say the scavenger fan. if its the later something is either hot orthe sensor, the big black sensor near the handbrake base is faulty or the wires have come off, because it comes on if the wire is broken/removed.

Hi, thanks for the reply. The temperature settings work, so warms up and cools down, with A/C on or off. The fan is just constantly at a high speed. I'll look at the wires though.
Thank you.

Just to ne clear, I assume you are not talking about the heater fan that is controlled by a knob in the cabin (no, not me), as that has 4 settings, but only the fastest works if the controller resistor has overheated and desoldered.

Hi, yes the fan controlled by the console in the front. Mines electronic with the digital display.
Thanks for the reply.

Its been reported in the past that the plug on the back of the Air. Con. controls can become loose and if so that will cause the air. con. fans to to operate so it might be worth first checking that the plug on the rear of the box is properly inserted!
After that it could be a a couple of issues there is a transistor (it can be replaced) that fails but normally open circuit so this stops the fans from working other than on Max. when a relay bypasses the transistor. There is Factsheet in the Club Members area that explains how to replace it, but as I say that normally stops the fan working.
