V6 New Shape n/s electric window switch

Post by Bainsy » Fri Apr 27, 2012 6:18 pm

The passenger side electric window switch has stopped working. Can still operate if from drivers door so long as override switch is in on position. Any suggestions?

check or replace the passy switch, or check the wiring loom that passes from the body to the door, these wires can break.

meter out job

A quick search for 'electric AND window' brings up lots of potentially useful info:

It doesn't necessarily mean a wiring fault.

If the passenger window switch on the driver's side is faulty the one in the passenger's door won't work.

This is because the switch in either door has to be exactly in the neutral mid position for the other to work. Any slight mechanical discrepancy can cause this condition.

I suspect that the high incidence of passenger side failures is due to excessive force being applied to the switches which appear not to work because the safety lock is on. The natural reaction to nothing happening is to yank it harder. This is not good for the plastic 'bearing' on the switch lever, particularly in the upward direction.

If the passenger switch, on either side, is at all loose or wobbly , the wiring might not be the suspect and would be better left alone until the switch is totally eliminated from the diagnostic process.

Thanks for all your suggestions. It seems the on off rocker switch on the driver side is faulty. If I switch it off and on a few times the problem is fixed. Any views on why that could be?

Could be as simple as just dust and dirt in the switch, take the switch out and using a switch cleaning spray. Might however be a mechanical problem.

To get at the switch do you need to remove the door panel?

I believe it should pop out with gentle leverage with a screwdriver.

push the whole switch plate forward then lift the rear, it is hooked at the front end so dont lift here.
