Heater/Fan

Post by RMP » Sun Nov 12, 2006 5:02 pm

Nothing appears to happen when I turn on the demister fan - I tried to look for the fuses but have no idea which is which. Can anybody point me in the right direction as it is getting very steamed up in here!

There is a diagram of all the fuses available in the Members' Only part of the forum.

Do you have manual or automatic aircon?

Do you mean the ventilation fan which blows air out of the face vents, the footwell vents and also the windscreen vents?

Does it not work on any speed setting?

if what pippin says is what the problem is, then it will be the fan speed resistor

this is what it looks like but this is for the digital climate controll NOT the knob type http://search.ebay.co.uk/search/search. ... n+resistor

and its a bargain,normally they are £77

and if you are a member, in the members section their is a detailed fact sheet how to check and repair the resistor if its broke and how to check the fan motor.

Mine looks like a manual air con with a knob. It has 4 speed settings and none of them work. The Bongo is a 1995 turbodiesel 4WD auto (if that makes any difference!). I gather then it is this resistor thingumyjig. Will a simpleton like me be able to sort it withou skinning my knuckles?

You really need to join the Owners' Club, details by clicking on the box at the top LH corner of this page.

You will have access to numerous fact sheets on many aspects of Bongo ownership.

It only costs a tenner or so.

And, no, I am not on commission!

If the resistor is the problem, and I think that you should check the fuse / fan first - - then I can let you have a tested ,functioning manual air con resistor for £38 including post .Email me .
I had the same problem but it was the fan which needed stripping /cleaning /lubricating , it was not a resistor problem - - - - but I had already bought a resistor thinking that it was the culprit - - -

as said.......if your fan is at fault, then you may even need both fan and resistor, check the drainage hole under the bonnet wat the bottom on the windcreen in the center.

if this is blocked then most defantely your fan has rusted up/seized?, if your go to the members section their is the step by step guide how to do it including photos,

i did my own using this guide and i am hopless at mechanical/ technical jobs

Well..I've checked the fuse (excellent diagrams on members area) and that's OK. I've removed the resistor thingy which appears clear across some of the connections, so looks as if it is OK so I reckon I'll have to have a look at the fan now which looks more of an issue. But fingers still intact!

Removed all the relevant bits right down to the fan. Stripped it down on the kitchen table as it was rock solid and very rusty. Loads of WD40 and a little light sanding and it then worked using the battery charger as a power source. Re-installing it (a few screws left over but what the hell?) it didn't work!! Realised I'd missed the cirsular cover disc off the bottom so all out again and re-assembled. Still no joy. Then followed the instructions for the resistor thingy, snapping the sides off with gay abandon and soldering away (only noticed the carefully word afterwards!) Popped it back in (now in the dark and rain outside) and HEY PRESTO - it works!!
Thanks guys!
