Roof doesn't work- please help

Post by Risoundz » Tue Apr 17, 2012 4:16 pm

Hello

The Roof has been working fine up to a few days ago.
It's in Park, hand brake on engine running but when I press the switch no beeping no movement.
I believe it can be a fuse or the switch that is faulty.

can you please give me a few tips on what to do?

what to check first.

thanks

Are you sure the handbrake is fully on? - is the warning light lit?
It's quite common for the little handbrake switch to need cleaning.

no warning lights are on.

I will check the Handbrake and the fuses.

I'll let you know.

Thanks for helping.

The Brake light is what we are talking about if that doesn't come on with the Handbrake then the roof won't go up, its uses the same signal.

Blimey, I didn't know brake lights came on with handbrake. Do you mean the brake warning light on the panel?

I think they do mean the indicator light on the dash

Well the Brake light doesn't come on with the Footbrake .....

C2-05 is the Handbrake switch that lights the lamp as also will C2-06 which looks at the brake fluid reservoir.

Looking at this thread has made me wonder whether it's a good idea to buy a set of spare fuses to keep in the van in case we need them in emergencies? If something like this happened when you were at a campsite, and couldn't get the roof down...and it was a fuse that was the issue, it would be darned handy to happen to have a spare one to hand!

Anyone got any advice on which to buy? Is there a type of 'spare fuse kit' I can get?

Thanks (sorry if this sounds obvious!)

Ian used to stock them in the BF shop, you could try giving him a call to check they are in stock. We keep a spare set in the glove box.....somewhere. :D

Yes its worth while getting a little kit of spare fuses for the Bongo, with the way people use a Bongo there is a much greater chance of having some additional electrical item causing a fuse to go. The Bongo shop has kits http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/mercha ... #Electrics but remember to Log in to the site if your a Club member to get the discount!

Hello.

Sorry for my delay replying but I pulled a mussel on my back and I've been in pain for a while.
No lights come on when I use the hand brake.

Is it a fuse or Just bad contact on the cable?

thanks

Most likely a poor contact at the handbrake switch.

Lift off the centre console cover, and look at the back of the handbrake lever - there is a switch of sorts there. It is quite open, and can get all manner of fluff & dirt in the contact points. The wire may have fallen off.

Clean / repair / fiddle with it until the Handbrake / Low fluid warning light on the dash comes on.

If it sin't lit, the roof won't budge.

Hello.

I ended up not doing anything. The brake light just came up again and the roof is working again.

I have a 1999 V6 new shape and I never turn the head lights on because the sensor does it for me.
suddenly it stopped working.
I don't know how to turn it on and off and I always wanted to know.
Does anyone know how to turn the sensor on and off.
I'm probably having some electric probs

Should I check all the electrics?

thanks
