Wheels larger than 15" - rougher ride?

Post by Dodgey » Mon Mar 05, 2012 8:12 pm

I have bog standard steel wheels and am looking at cheapo alloys. I'm looking at 15" alloys as I like how soft the ride is (my other car, is indeed a Porsche , so the soft ride is a nice change :-) ).

If I end up getting 16" from ebay am I likely to suffer quite a change in the ride? (well, I assume I would but what I want to know is those of you who upgraded to larger - did you notice a change?)

I really only want to take the "dullness" out of the standard wheels, and I'd like to re-use my existing tyres as they are good. But there do seem to be the odd "wheels with tyres" deals on ebay...

p.s. if anyone has the ability to make me a rear window sticker for my Porker that says "my other car is a Bongo" - i'm all ears! :-)

Hi Dodgy. Not much experience on the alloys front as mine came with 17" wheels, so nothing to compare to.
Cabte is your man for the decal have a look for him in the pimp section. There will be links to his website.

I didn't notice any difference in the ride quality when I went from 15s to 17s.
But I didn't fit low profile tyres as part of the reason was to get a bigger rolling radius.

I run 18" RX8 alloys and I think it rides better. I have my 15" standard alloys on at the minute so I can compare and It isnt as nice but that could be down to crap tyres. Might sell the standards when i take them off.

I am on 17's... all is fine...slightly firmer but that's not a bad thing.... the Winter 17's are on just now and the Wintrac tyres are great in cooler weather but when we change the clocks...the summer 17's are back on
