Low profile tyres

Post by evebennett » Sun Mar 04, 2012 5:53 am

We have a possible height issue for garaging our yet to be picked up 2001 Bongo and are looking for information on low profile tyres. Primarily, we would like to know if there are any implications with using low profile tyres on the standard rims and approximately how much lower will the total height of the vehicle be.

Hi
You won't lose much height by putting low profile tyres on....BUT, you will find the speedo reading too far out by fitting low profile tyres to standard rims, and as such you will be committing an offence.
Best to get the garage altered!

In the beginning there was nothing , then God said "Let there be Light".....There was still nothing , but ,by crikey, you could see it better.

Depends what height you're trying to achieve, and whether you're starting with a tintop, a factory AFT or an aftermarket pop-top.

Standard height for tintop and factory AFT is 1.96m and 2.09m respectively.

Don't forget that if you use low-profile tyres on standard rims, you'll be lowering the gearing so dropping your top speed and making the speedo read faster than you're actually going.

Apart from the above, you may also find difficulty in getting the right load rating, depending on how low a profile you want.
