Vibration when idling in Drive
I am concerned by an annoying vibration throughout the cab when my auto is in Drive or reverse and stationary or as it comes to a halt.
Purrs lovely when in Neutral or Park.
Any immediate checks for free?

check the throttle cable is free and well lubed, then check its adjusted correctly.
does this happen when first started with the cold start engaged, or when warmed up, or both.

It happens from starting. The revs drop to the second marker on the rev counter, I guess it is about 660 Is this a little low? Also the glow plug light takes a while to go out. A little longer than my previous bongo which is almost the same apart from its age. Could this be connected?

Re: Vibration when idling in Drive
the revs are too low on start up.
fast idle solenoids maybe not working or pipes to them broken.
do a search on here, there has been lots on them recently including one thred which states how the revs can cancell the glowplugs.

Re: Vibration when idling in Drive
Thank you for the suggestion. I've read a number of the threads with interest and, as my AC is on the blink too, I think it may be worth a closer look. I have the service manual, but where is the 'fast idle solenoid' located as it is not named that in the manual.
Cheers

drivers side under the seat, look high up at rocker cover level towards the rear of the head, you will see two solenoids (air -- lecky switches) one with a white plug to it and one with a black plug to it. they have 5mm vac pipes to them.
the one with the white plug to it(right one) controls cold start and air con revs pick up to just below 950 revs when engine cold or aircon button pushed, then switches off when bongo up to temp (like an auto choke).
the left one picks up the revs when its really cold, so this one is harder to test unless its around freezing.
do a search top right of screen, and put in cold start solenoids by author ( jaylee ). click on the threads, that should help.
you will possibly find a pipe broken off, check them carefully they are very brittle. or the white plug one may be siezed up with rust inside.
they are repairable and are available as they are fitted to all egr controlled petrol mazdas of similar age or izzuzu's etc, go to scrappies as they are really expensive new.

Re: Vibration when idling in Drive
I have an interesting workaround to this problem, as I have a simple throttle-lock cruise control fitted to my Bongo. A spin-off benefit of this is that I can instantly set and lock the engine at any rpm. Handy for customised tickovers, setting to 2500rpm during coolant changes etc.
