climate control not working.

Post by jamesythe3rd » Fri Feb 24, 2012 9:49 pm

Hello all,

Newbie here, just had my '97 2.5td for a week, very clean motor, inside out and under and seems to run very well but noticed that the climate control 1. does not blow chilly air on a/c, (which i thought may require re-charge of gas) and 2. does not get progressively hot as you go up the temp range ( just luke warm) then will blow hot only when i reach the max temp 32.
Engine temp is ok, no overheating or anything like that.

Pleeeeease somebody tell me I've not a rookie mistake and this is going to cost me an arm and a leg!!!!

Many thanks in anticipation,

Jamesy.

With climate control on auto can you hear a fan come on when you turn on ignition. If not gassed fully this fan does not come on. not sure if the hotter temps are affected by this.

Two quick things to check with the climate control;
1. Make sure the plug in the back hasn't come loose, see the plug out the back on the left hand side http://lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/c ... 2of02.html
2. Check to make sure that the control flaps driven by rods haven't broken loose, see the picture below from down in the drivers footwell;

Thanks for the replies, I'll give it a look and see where I am after that.

Cheers,

hi all,

my heater does'nt start getting warm until about that temp, if you're relying on the coolant alarm for the temp reading you are getting the temp of the head and not water temp (someone correct me if im wrong),

another thing to check is the aircon air intake under the bonnet (you will have to remove the fan to get at it if i remenber correctly) you will probably find all sorts of Japanese wildlife and debris stuck to it ( go easy cleaning it with a small stiff paint brush as the air fins are quite fine and you will bend them) not sure how you get to clean the interior heater matrix ( next job when i get the motivation, probably a bigger strip down unless any one who has done it already can say how?).

hope thats some help

Other than the useful replies.... do the engines fans spin up when the air con is switched on.... if they don't then it's likely to be a re gas of the system..... a quick check that the fans are spinning up with air con is to unplug the brown connector which is on top of the drier bottle (on the right had side of the small front radiator) - link it across with some wire and switch on the ignition and air con button....this will check the fans are working.... if it doesn't spin up when connected....then you will need a re gas...
Plenty of Air Con specialists out there but I have used the can jobs on customer cars when on site repair/service visits... and they work...they do have oil,seal treatment and gas... obviously yer pays yer money...

I wonder if there was any result ? Its always useful to know the outcomes so we can pass on the info. to the next sufferer.
