V6 Bleeding Problem

Hi

Our V6 runs fine but we changed the coolant approx 2000m ago and the front heaters only get warm ever since. I have tried running the engine with the bleed tube un-bunged and elevated but all that happens is after 20 minutes or so warm coolant begins to pour out of the tube. It isn't under pressure particularly and I can stop it with my finger on the tube but I was rather hoping for an ejection of air, not water.

I guess I'm going wrong somewhere but can anyone advise me?

have you tried flushing the heater via a hose to the bits poke through the bulkhead

No, haven't flushed the heater. I was kinda hoping it wasn't blocked as it has always worked fine and the coolant that came out was in fine condition with good colour and no particles. I assumed a bleeding problem as I had read elsewhere that the front heater is a likely point for airlocks?

its not just a control flaps problem is it.
check the temp of the feed/return pipes under the bonet, and of the rear heater pipes they should be similar/same. if you have the blowers on there should be a diff between the inlets and outlets.

It may not be a good idea to leave the bleed pipe open and elevated as that is likely to allow air into the system. Ideally, you need to keep the pipe full of water which is why the see saw method with a funnel works as it allows you to keep a head of water on it.

Might be worth draining it out, remove thermostat, refit the housing and then reverse flushing the system with a hosepipe. Then fit a new thermostat, refill with fresh coolant (50/50) mix and then rebleeding it.
