Bongo Tyres

Hi

The tryes fitted to the Bongo I brought recently are Brigestone Blizzak Revo 2 which look almost new.

I thought I would look up on the internet the cost of these and I see they are Snow tryes for winter use.

Does anyone know the downside of using these on my car all year?

Winter tyres are a different compound and may wear quicker than 'normal' tyres. There's a good chance they are the one fitted in Japan so they could potentially be quite old, so have a read up on how to understand the date code that should be moulded into the side wall. It they are more than 6 years old then they could be getting to the point where they starting to perish and becoming towards the end of their useful life regardless of the amount tread left on them. Also check the load rating is correct (lots of info on the forum).

If they are not too old, then I would personally use them until they get down towards the limit and then replace the set with some decent all purpose tyres.

Tyres could be an insurance problem if they are not legally permitted in terms of EU markings, and, as stated, sufficiently load rated. It might be an idea to pop into the MOT station and ask if the tyres carry the right markings for European road use if they are Japanese tyres. From what I remember, they have an 'E" mark if they can be used in Europe...but don't quote me

Mine had those tyres fitted when I bought it, and they are still fitted now. Mine are of the correct size and load rating (worth checking yours) and it's been through 2 MOT's no problem. I'll be changing them soon, but only because the tread is getting low. They may not wear as well as regular tyres, and maybe the fuel economy is not quite as good. But it just didn't seem worth buying a new set of tyres until they were required. Hope that helps.

Like others have said, the load rating is important to check. If you have 4WD it is also important that they are all the same size (or within 1%), which yours are. Mine has factory standard sizes 195/70 R15 on the front and 215/65 R15 on the rear but I believe it is common to have 215/65 R15 all round. Plenty of threads about that on here.

As far as I know, I don't think your 16" wheel size is standard but that shouldn't be a problem as they are all the same size. However, 215/65 R16 is almost 4% over the standard rolling diameter which will alter your speedo reading slightly. Also, you should probably check the size of your spare. If it's different it could cause you problems if you ever need to use it (assuming you have 4WD).
