SORRY glow plugs/relay/fuse link ??

Hi all
the last few weeks the bongo has not been starting up,unless you crank the engine over for a good while
( only found this out when l had to borrow it from the wife ) right lets try some new glow plugs.But first l will
test the old ones,so today l removed all 4 glow plugs and conected them one at a time to the rail turned on ignition
no glow on plug one or 2 or 3 or 4,so l'm guessing that the plugs may be okay-ish and the fault is some where else.
So can anyone tell/show me where the relay is and the fuse link and how to check them or give me some advise on
this fault

The fusable link is direct from the battery and looks like a cloth covered wire
not sure on the relay but to check if there is a problem put a circuit tester from the rail to earth and turn on the ignition if there is power then its the plugs

Have you tested the glowplugs individually ie earth it with a jumplead and touch the end that fits the rail on the posative terminal of the battery ?

Also when you turn the ignition on can you hear a relay "CLICK" after about 20 seconds ?

Remember that the glow rail is only earthed via the rail being attatched to the glowplugs being insitu, once the plugs are out of the engine block the earth is lost, was your rail earthed when you did your test ?

l put plug onto the rail and the tip to earth and turned the ignition on the plug did not glow but l did hear the click
did not try it from the battery to plug and then to earth ,but will at first light tomorrow.

its not the tip that goes to earth its the metal body to earth.
or the best way is to measure the resistance of each plug.
set your meter to ohms, red cable to top screw on plug, black to metal body of plug. at room temp(20 degc) you should get 0.9 of an ohm.

thanks was wondering why all 4 plugs where not glowing
will try this in the morning looks like l have a few tests for the morning

you can test each plug while still in the engine by removing the connecting rail and with your meter on ohms red to top nut and black to the head next to the plug, or the metal side of the plug.
make sure you tighten them and the top nuts to the proper torque settings, as tight plugs snap in the head and slack nuts cause the same effect as a plug down.
best to remove the plugs from the head when the engine is stone cold ive found.

dont forget there are 2 lengths of plug, which are yours long or short.

First of all thank you for your replys

here are the results of the tests
found fusable link a cheacked OK
tested bus bar to earth -voltage present
tested plugs with meter 2 plugs ok (0.9 ohms )1 plug tested @ 3.75 ohms 1 plug open curcuit
tested the good plugs from rail to a good earth both glowing

the down side of this its sunday,can't get the parts

BUT the up side is what a great forum
