Battery Tray

Hi, I've been reading lots of threads on L Batteries and SC relays and now realise that the set up I have is likely to be inadequate or even dodgy.

It looks like I need the Willinton kit but can anyone explain - if I have already have a metal (factory fitted ?) battery tray on the near side of the engine bay where my L Battery is crudely fitted, do I really need a PLASTIC TRAY as well?
The main engine battery looks like it is just sitting in a similar metal tray on the other side.

seem to recall reading that the willminton one sat lower

better to cope with bigger batteries

If you have the factory fit second tray, you don't need the Willinton tray - which is why he sells some kits without the tray.

Unless you want to fit in the tallest possible battery - in which case you swap the Mazda steel one for the Willinton Fibregalss one.

I think the plastic tray under the main battery is there to protect against any small leaks and to provide a bit more stability. I would assume the Mazda bracket fitted on the passenger side for the twin battery setup would also have a plastic tray too, but none of the aftermarket metal ones I have seen have anything like this.

Thanks for all of the input. Ok, I think I've got it. Taller batteries could be a problem. After having another look at the main battery it does have a thin liner tray beneath it. So, is there any advantage in trying to obtain one of these and would Halfords or similar have one? I need to get a couple of decent clamps anyway. The LB has sat in it's unlined metal tray for about 3 years so far.

I cut a bit of rubber car mat and stuck in under the LB just to stop it moving around. Seemed to work absolutely fine.
