Auxiliary Lighting

Post by climbingnut » Wed Feb 08, 2012 9:28 pm

Ok, silly question time...

Can you fit a 12v light fitting, normally designed for use in bathrooms and kitchens (which would in that instance require a transformer), into a Bongo wired up as you would any other 12v light?

Car specific 12v lights appear to be quite expensive, while 12v domestic lights can be had for around a fiver.

E.g. http://www.toplightco.com/acatalog/Whol ... __538.html

Ta!

P.S. Looking forward to losing our collective Bongo Big Bash virginity this June!

Any 12 volt would be fine .. in particular LED types as they are very low consumption .. designed for DC current and work well from a car battery ..

Loads on ebay like .. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-X-MR11-G4-1 ... 27af95391d
JAL Mushroom roof,12/240v, fridge, cooker, sink, LPG V6 .. (written off @ £5500 Nov 2016)

Thanks Mike,
That's good news. I found MR11 G4 warm LED light bulbs on eBay, which was what got me thinking. At 12v and 1W, 21 LEDs warm light at 2800-3000K and only £2.39ea incl P&P, they seemed ideal.

I couldn't think of a reason why they wouldn't work, but car electrics just seem a little strange to me sometimes. :?

All I need now is to fit a leisure battery etc!

Worth reading the comment here about using 12v LEDs in a vehicle:

http://www.reuk.co.uk/buy-12-VOLT-REGULATOR.htm

"These bulbs have a working voltage of 10.5-13.5 Volts, so if they are directly connected to a 12V-rated lead acid battery, the bulbs could easily be damaged by the 13.5V+ voltage of a fully charged or under-charge battery."
