New bongo leaking coolant

Post by antb » Mon Feb 06, 2012 3:51 pm

Hi all - my first post about my new bongo and sadly I'm v. Worried!
I bought from a dealer in south and after 30mins of driving I notice bright green coolant trickling out from the radiator overflow ( just under rad cap is an open metal tube, part of the rad).
I've returned to dealer voicing head gasket/cracked head concerns but wanted any opinion/advice from the forum. The dealer has already spotted the air con rad is leaking but not sure if there's any connection?
Cheers,
Ant

It sounds like the radiator has been replaced with an after market one that has an unblocked outlet ! These need to be blocked as the pressure cap is on the plastic de-gassing box and needs to be a 1.1Bar cap at that, sounds like who ever worked on it doesn't understand Bongo cooling systems :-( Beware.......

Above answer is spot on.....that Rad outlet should not be there....get it blocked off and the system bled.....BY THE GARAGE YOU GOT IT FROM. get them to recover it before you drive it anywhere......Sounds as though it needs sorting before it;s to late....Ask the garage if they know how to bleed a bongo....if they say yes...ask them where the bleed point is.....answer....under the passenger seat

Just to conclude - the dealer replaced the aftermarket radiator with a new one and bled the system under warranty - I also decided to fit the "correct" 1.1bar radiator caps - rather than 0.9 which it had. 300 miles later I haven't seen any coolant loss (or overheating) so our bongo is happy as are we!

Also got the horn working and the rear wiper jets with help from the Bongy Fury forum. Next on the shopping list is a roof rack and mains hook-up

Why did they need to fit a new radiator, out of interest?
