Post by davelochs » Tue Jan 31, 2012 11:14 am

Hi there,

I need to replace the driver door lock on my mazda bongo 1995 4WD 2.5D but haven't found any online, can anyone advise where i might be able to source one? Should i try breakers yards?

Thanks

Brand new ones are available from the Bongo Shop (top right of screen, above), in the Exterior section.

Hi Ian,

forgive my ignorance, just had a look in the shop, does that mean i would have two different keys...the current one which locks the driver's door and starts the bongo and a separate key to open the drivers door?

Hi, David... I had a cunning thought...! :-k (Just in case it means you don't get a suited key & lock set?)
Why not (if possible?) take the original lock barrel off (maybe) the passenger door? That will still leave the one key to open the whole vehicle with the manual CL & the ignition..?!!

I'm guessing on the basis you have no alarm/remote CL & my own habit of opening the side slider or the rear tailgate as i don't ever remember i four years of camping with a Bongo needed to open the front passenger side on its own....??

Yes, you will end up with 2 keys. One for the door, one for the ignition.

Thanks Ian

That's maybe an option Jaylee, do you know what effect that would have if i were to fit an alarm?

Thanks

In theory, none what so ever... You could/would have to fit an after-market actuator in the drivers door to control the full existing Bongo manual CL on all the doors, but that part only connects to the pull rod inside the door... (Part 58-390) http://lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/c ... no=.html#6 Some alarms come with remote CL control too... When you disarm, it unlocks & visa versa...

I get the feeling the damaged lock was an attempted break in??

Another, more expensive/difficult option to to replace all 4 door lock barrels & ignition barrel with set from a scrap van. I'm sure I saw a set on ebay recently. That way, they'll all use the same key. Lot of effort though.

Thanks Simon, that is a lot of work though, think i'll just buy the one new one and have two keys

Jaylee, yes it was an attempted break in, could have been a lot worse

Sorry to hear that David, there are some real scroats out there...!!

It really is that simple though, to fit a remote central locking actuator with an alarm if your getting the door panel off anyway..?!!
