Coolant Filter

After reading viewtopic.php?f=3&t=53631, I wondered if anyone has ever fitted a coolant filter, such as the Tefba or similar?

I've only found one thread talking about inline coolant filters via the search so far... viewtopic.php?f=3&t=50237&p=509397&hilit=coolant+inline+filter#p509397 - and even then, only suggested in one post (by roofraisers). Perhaps I have missed others.

I appreciate it adds another couple of hose joints and a cap as potential points of failure, but would it generally be a good thing? You know, in a bid to keep the coolant system in "tip top" condition... Obviously you wouldn't want a clogged filter to prevent flow in times of dire need - I don't know where the balance lies.

Anyone?

Iam no techie..but would think a good syatem flush out ever 1-2 years would be enough?

this assumes a regular car

that has long staraight level hoses

not ones turn 90 degrees right away

and were top hose is highest thing in the system...features a removeable cap that enables you to easily remove and clean the filter screens with no loss of coolant and no addition of air to the system

none of this would apply in a bongo

I think pretty much every car on the market has a complicated mass of pipes, tubes & matrixes in the coolant system, but I've never come across one with a coolant filter. That's not to see it would serve no benefit, but manufacturers who more frequently offer 100,000 mile warranties do not see any potential savings to be gained by spending a few extra pence at time of production. Regular draining, flushing & replacement with good quality anti-freeze ought to be sufficient (IMHO).
