Powder coated wheels ..

Post by mikeWalsall » Sat Jan 14, 2012 2:43 pm

Bought five Lexus GS300 16" x 7J rims complete with new 225 /55/16" directional tyres plus the 25 chrome nuts off eBay at Christmas ..

Just collected them from a 'mate' ..after having the tyres removed / refitted .. the rims .. stripped .. primed and powder coated ... cost me £15 per wheel ..

Just waiting on a set of these ... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/260801971283? ... 1438.l2649 .. so I can remove / replace the 'L' from the centre caps ..

Not according to this http://www.alloywheelsinternational.com/LEXUS.html - the centre bores look too small, so will need drilling out to fit on the hub.

Very tidy looking wheels. Does your mate offer BF members a similar competitive price  . If so, I have 8 wheels that could do with a refurb.

That list is rubbish  The PCDs are the same, but the centre bores are not - all those with a bore of more than 60.1 will need machining out.
It looks like they may well fit your Estima, as most large Toyotas have a 60.1 centre bore.

Strange as I know that Bongo owners fit Toyota Estima wheels ... and I already have Lexus wheels on my Estima.

Maybe the website's wrong then - have you measured the centre bores?

I have not removed a Bongo wheel to check ...

But I measured the centre of a Toyota Alloy and the Bongos spacesaver with a vernier and the alloy is about 2mm ..... smaller in diameter ....

Bugga ... if it had been the other way round I could have used a spigot ring ..

I think thats where the confusion comes from. The fitment table is for aftermarket wheels which have an extra large centre bore, designed to be used with spigot rings.

Hi all,
I'm a new owner and a Fury virgin, having owned my 2litre petrol tintop for one whole week. My bongo has some ropey 17" alloys and I want to refurb them myself. I've been slumped at the PC the last few nights looking at PCD's, bore sizes, etc and trawling through old posts on the fury forum.

My understanding is that you can fit a wheel with a larger bore size than 67.1 to a Bongo with the aid of a spigot ring. Fitting alloys with a smaller bore than 67.1 is unsafe as they'd be incorrectly seated. I'm no expert by any stretch so if anyone can tell me if I'm right or wrong I'd very grateful.

If I right then I'd guess that a wheel from a Bongo could in theory be fitted to any Lexus, as all Lexus' have a bore of 60.1mm. A spigot ring would be needed of course. BUT Lexus wheels can't or shouldn't be fitted to a Bongo.

An ebayer local to me has a spare Toyota Estima/lucida 17" alloy for sale. Thought I could swop and refurb my wheels one at a time until I realised that the Estima also has a 60.1mm bore. Have emailed the chap and he has responded saying that he's traded in Estima's and Bongo's for many years and knows his stuff. Says I'm misinformed and the wheel will safely fit my Biongo????
Though I've just read Kloonsy's post - as these are 17" rims they are aftermarket wheels so the bore size could be anything!... Think I'll take my tape measure and go and have a look.....

Any input would be greatly appreciated - love the forum by the way!. BTW Mike - those aloys look brill - did you try them on your Bongo?

Cheers,
Paul

Although the five bolt holes line up ... As ..I .. have since found out .. you are correct .. The Bongo wheels would fit a Toyota with the use of Spigot rings ..

But as the Toyota as a smaller centre hole the wheel will not fit over the 'hub' of the Bongo ..

I just went from a list of what I assumed where compatible rims (obviously as I have realised it's not always a good thing to do)... but ... it was just a list of the PCD (pitch circle diameter) that related to the number / spacing of the wheels mounting bolt holes of various car manufactures ..

As what as already been pointed out ... most after market rims would be produced with a universally .. to .. large bore (hole) that would utilise a spigot ring to make up the difference in diameters ..

I already have a Toyota Estima with Lexus rims .. I could have tried a wheel from that on the Bongo .. rather than 'assuming' that the listed rims would fit ..

Sorry Mike. Hindsights a bugger, eh? Thank-you for coming back to me though. No consulation for you though I'm afraid.

They look superb so surely you can get your investment back by flogging 'em on ebay or on the Estima forum?
The local ebayer flogging the wheel on ebay has said I can try before I buy- so I'm going to pop up one evening and measure the bore rather than arse around in the dark with my jack. As I said its a 17" so its got to be an aftermarket wheel anyway so I reckon it'll be fine. Betcha it wasnt fitted with a spigot ring when it was on the Estima though! Will report back as the info may prove useful to others.
Thanks again Mike.

Like me ... one of the members on the TEOC as a Bongo as well as a Toyota and I know he used to swap his wheels from bus to bus .. so when I read the PCD list I assumed that they would interchange from one to the other .. never thinking of the 'bore' size ..

I have my Bongo on SORN and I am still using my Estima so I'm in no rush..

Strange thing is the guy who listed my Bongo is ...
