Saved.....me of all peeps

Post by haydn callow » Sun Jan 08, 2012 12:54 pm

Coming back from a night out last night.....started Bongo and a "slight peep" from the Coolant Alarm.......had a look under the bonnet this morning and there was the expansion tank cap sitting under the windscreen......level just on the screw.......wonderful things these GIZMO's.

i would get one for each of my bongo's if they didnt already have them fitted.
best bit of bongo goodies you can buy.

in the interest of fairness they arnt foolproof, but it saves more bongo's than it kills so its a no brainer for me.

I hope you have checked that the head is free of air, as coolant will boil at atmospheric pressure. This will push coolant up in the degassing tank fooling the alarm until it cools down and contracts as this is what I believe you are experiencing. I hope this is helpful, better safe than sorry.

Thanks for that.....as it happens I have a couple of temp gauges in the cooling system which would have told me if I got anywhere near boiling......the level was just down to the sensor screw so a simple "top up" was all that was required.
If the LCA had not been fitted I would have carried on untill the tank was empty and either the temp alarms would have kicked in or it would have overheated.....whatever...it would have been very inconveiant.

How do I get my hands on one of these coolant alarms, they seem very useful.
Better still, how do I get someone knowledgable to fit one for me
