Whats this lever for?

Post by Tidmo » Thu Dec 29, 2011 3:14 pm

Hello all and seasons greetings. I was fiddling around under the the Bongs bonnet yesterday- as you do, when ive noticed a lever on top of what looks like the air intake. It moves backwards and forwards as you stand in front of the vehicle. It feels like it controls a flap (?) Ive had old cars in the past where you would have something similar for winter/summer settings. Is this similar and what position does it need to be in?
Its a 2000 2.5 diesel,4WD with the north Japan winter double battery pack. Thanks.

Cold climate air vent ..

Push it back (towards the windscreen) for cold weather warm up .. push forward for the summer ..

thats exactly what it is, cannot remember which way is what season, but if you look in the mouth of the air intake you will work it out(unless it has a mesh cover, some have.)
it just opens a flap to allow warm air to enter the intake in colder months, and outside cooler air in summer.

Similar to some of the old carbed engines where there was a movable 'elbow' on the air filter intake ..

Twisted it forward for the summer .. and down onto the exhaust manifold for the Winter ..!!

if you have digital climate control, you will find the lever is controlled by a servo inside the air intake housing, you will find the postiion changes if you put it into recirculate or when the digital climate control nears the set temperature,
