You will be fine so long as you are booked in for the MOT in advance.
Off topic. Not been to the Shetlands myself, only been as far as the Orkneys but would like to go to the Shetlands one day to see if I can see the Northern Lights from the most northernly island. How will you get there, ferry from Aberdeen or hopscotching from Thurso to Orkaneys to Sheltands? Bring back loads of photos and info on how you got there and how much it cost.

this is probably one of the reasons.................ChrisQ wrote:Thanks for your responses. I have checked the garage list, and there are 2 in Aylesbury, one of which does MOTs. Wish I'd known about that 3 days ago.
It's now unlikely I'll get an MOT tomorrow 24th, as the usual Christmas panic, so looks like we'll be using the wife's Citroen Saxo over the holidays
VOSA confirmed that the garage was correct not use "generic" weights for the test
Mazda web site for information on "contact us" is by snail mail, so I've sent of a request, but not expecting a rapid response, though I have include my e:mail address to to and speed things up.
I will print out the attachments I've been sent that include vehicle weight, and see how I get on with that.
The weight is not in my V5, nor on the VIN plate, so I'm still scratching my head as to how it got its initial MOT before being registered ????
Forget my problems, Happy Christmas to all my readers, and enjoy your holidays and Bongoliering in 2012.
My big Bongo adventure for 2012 in at the end of January when I'm of to Lerwick in the Shelands to celebrate Up Helly Aa ( presuming MOT is sorted by then !!

Some MOT testing stations use the ATL system, this system will self weigh the vehicle, the computer needs the vehicle weight to calculate the braking efficiency..

Hi Mountain Goat,
driving up to Aberdeen and then Northlink Ferry direct to Lerwick,
Accommodation courtesy of Brother in law and camping at Clickimin.
Ferry cost for me & son including cabin on return journey is £320.88. Chance of a lifetime, my brother in laws contract expires in 2012, and he is returning to the mainland.
Went up last year in the summer with my wife ( before I had the Bongo ) and it's a real friendly place. Islanders have closer links to Scandinavia than Scotland.
I'm sure I'll be adding some photos of burning Viking boats in Feb

That's why the northermost county in Scotland is called Sutherland. To the Vikings it was the Southlands, the most southernly part of the Viking lands which included Orkneys, Shetlands, the Wester Islands, the Isle of Man and the northen part of the Scottish Mainland.
